Dozens of people have responded to a Craigslist ad posted by a California woman who was abused as a child and is seeking to “rent a mom and dad” for the holiday season.

“I am looking to rent a mom and dad who can give me attention and make me feel like the light of their life just for a couple of days because I really need it,” wrote Jackie Turner, a William Jessup University student in California, a local ABC News affiliate reported.

“Just to sit, just to listen,” she said. “Just to cry with me, no strings beyond that. I’ve never felt the touch of my Mom hugging me and holding me. I don’t know what it’s like to look in my dad’s eyes and feel love instead of hatred.”

Miss Turner has been physically, sexually and emotionally abused since childhood, she told the station. She left home at a young age and spent a lot of time on the streets.

After a brief stint in jail, she attended a camp for troubled young adults in Grass Valley called Christian Encounter Ministries.

Now she’s a presidential scholar at her university and has a 4.0 grade-point average.

“There’s still something deep inside of me. There’s this void, my biological parents aren’t here, and it’s kept this hole inside of me,” she told News 10.

Dozens of families have offered to take Miss Turner in for free, but the outpouring of support has given her a new idea.

Because so many people contacted her with similar abuse stories as hers, she has decided to create her own family. She hopes to plan a gathering where everyone like her can find support, News 10 reported.
