Authorities said a woman was found dead inside an Adams Morgan apartment after D.C. firefighters extinguished a blaze in the basement floor unit.

The woman has not been identified, but a police spokesman said she is an adult.

Firefighters were called to the apartment, in the 1600 block of Beekman Place Northwest around 2 p.m. for a report of the fire.

“The fire was put out rather quickly within 20 to 25 minutes,” D.C. fire department spokesman Tim Wilson said.

The fire was contained to the basement level unit where it started. No one else was injured.

The cause of the blaze was unclear and authorities did not confirm the women’s cause of death.
