A paralyzed Arkansas man woke up to the horrific sight of his mid-section covered in blood, only to realize that his new puppy had chewed off one of his testicles, police said.

The 39-year-old Trumann man, who was not identified, is paralyzed from the waist down, and he had recently adopted a “small, white, fluffy” dog in hopes of gaining a new friend, KAIT8 reported. But he woke up Monday morning in excruciating pain and found his new pet between his legs.

When the man looked further, according to the report, he noticed that “the dog had eaten one of his testicles.”

He was taken to St. Bernard’s Regional Hospital for treatment to his injuries. The dog, however, was euthanized. Its head was sent to the Arkansas Department of Health to be tested for rabies, KAIT8 reported.

The man’s condition is not known.
