An 81-year-old woman died after she was hit by a car in a shopping center parking lot, police said Monday.

Shirley Stearman, of Potomac, was walking in the parking lot of the Giant Food store in the 7900 block of Tuckerman Lane, when she was struck by a car driven by 43-year-old Hyun Jeung In.

The Germantown man was making a left turn in his 2009 Acura MDX when he struck Ms. Stearman, police said. Montgomery County fire department personnel happened to be in the shopping area for an unrelated incident, and immediately responded.

Ms. Stearman was taken to a hospital where she died of her injuries.
