The new PBS show “Women Who Make America” is misnamed. As I watched it and looked at all those very wealthy, aging feminists who spearheaded the legalization of abortion so many years ago, the thought occurred to me that a more precise name for the show would be “Women Who Make Millions off the Real Women Who Make America.”

A large portion of the show focused on abortion and how it has given women the “choice” to escape from the drudgery and servitude of ordinary responsibilities such as marriage and monogamy, childbearing and child-rearing. I wonder, did they really have to support something as extreme as abortion in order to get out of cooking dinner and washing the dishes? Did they really have to do the implausible and get the U.S. Supreme Court to give women the constitutional right to kill their children so they could cheat on their husbands without the fear of an unwanted pregnancy?

We heard from Gloria Steinem, Betty Friedan, Faye Wattleton, Hillary Rodham Clinton, Judy Blume, Erica Jong, Arianna Huffington, Oprah Winfrey and many others who have supported the abortion industry and capitalized on it through their books, magazines, websites, public appearances, politics, the entertainment world, talk shows and movies.

As they celebrate their gains over the past 50 years, are these women really concerned about the woman whose boyfriend walked out on her and her unborn baby? Or the woman who may have to drop out of college because of an unplanned pregnancy? Or how about the one who already has four children? Do they really think that women deserve better than abortion — or do their stock portfolios, designer clothing, expensive homes and cars and public adulation from the left mean more to them as they continue to exploit ordinary women under the guise of reproductive freedom?
