LAS VEGAS (AP) - Jeff Burton is hoping his crew chief’s soon-to-arrive baby can wait one more week.

Luke Lambert’s wife, Jamie, is expecting their second child back home in Charlotte. Lambert flew home from Phoenix last Saturday with RCR’s Nationwide car in anticipation of the birth, but it didn’t happen.

Jamie is on bed rest, and the Lamberts are hoping the baby will wait until after the race. If the baby has other ideas, Nationwide crew chief Ernie Cope will fill in for the second straight week while Lambert leaves Las Vegas.

“If something starts, we’re going to support Luke being at home,” Burton said. “He should be home with his wife. If anybody questions that, I don’t give a damn. Yeah, racing is important, but being a father is more important.”

Burton finished 10th in Phoenix last week.
