D.C. United still sit at the bottom of the Eastern Conference with just one win on the 2013 campaign. But for the first time in more than two months, the club managed to avoid defeat Sunday.
United moved to 1-8-2 with a 1-1 draw against Sporting Kansas City (6-4-3), as midfielder Kyle Porter’s first MLS tally in the 65th minute negated an Ethan White own goal five minutes earlier.
Porter knocked home a cross at the back post from Chris Pontius, who marked his return from a three-game absence (groin) with the assist. The result snapped a seven-game losing streak for United, including a
four-game skid at RFK Stadium.
