OPINION:
To our friendly American neighbors: You can take solace and rest easy knowing that while Muslim terrorists plant bombs in the streets of your cities, your Customs and Border Protection (CBP) is carefully monitoring the movements of Canadian boaters cruising in U.S. waters.
Unable to do anything effective about your homeland terrorists, the CBP is using up resources and manpower to carefully track the travels of Canadians as they cruise the Inland Passage of Alaska in their Alaskan-registered pleasure boats. They are now ordering that these visitors must phone in every arrival and departure to and from every little village along the coast of Alaska, even though the visitors have not left Alaska.
Of course this is pure bureaucratic “window dressing,” an attempt by your Department of Homeland Security, with its inability to deal effectively with the real dangers to your country, to appear to be doing something to ensure the safety and security of your homeland. We have the same problem with our regulators in Canada. Unable or unwilling to deal with the perpetrators of crime and violence, they lash out at law-abiding folks to make it look like they are actually doing something about the problem.
So you can rest assured that your homeland security tax dollars are being spent wisely and effectively, carefully keeping tabs on all those gray-haired Canadians visiting your Alaskan villages, while you sweep up the mess in Boston. Sleep tight.
