The Dow topped 16,000 for the first time Monday morning and the S&P 500 also hit a new milestone as Wall Street continued its record run.

The Dow Jones industrial average was at 16,016.89 shortly after 11 a.m. The benchmark index is up nearly 3,000 points, or 22 percent, since the beginning of the year.

The Dow closed Friday at 15,961.70, before jumping above 16,000 in the first 20 minutes of trading Monday.

Meanwhile, the broader S&P 500 reached a new milestone at 1,800.

The S&P is up 375 points, or 26 percent, on the year. It closed Friday at 1,798.18.
