Mark and Jessica Lynn Cummings, who both underwent gender-reassignment surgery in recent years, are getting married, the New York Post has reported.

Mark, 49, was born a girl named Maritza Perdomo, while Jessica, 39, was once a boy named Shawn O’Donnell, the paper said.

The two met in Florida in 2011. Mark transitioned in 2003 and is now legally recognized as a man. Jessica had her testicles surgically removed earlier this year and is now recognized as a woman.

“With Jessica, I have found true love for the first time in my life,” Mark told The Post. “It’s like something you see in the movies. Because she has gone through the same journey as me, she knows the pain and suffering that it can be to be a transgender person.”

“To the outside world, we are a normal heterosexual couple, but being transgender I feel like we are even more in tune with each other. Having been a female, I can understand what Jessica is feeling and vice versa,” he said. “We share this incredible bond, which is almost like sharing the same brain.”

Jessica said she lived as a gay man for years, never fully accepting her identity.

“Meeting Mark helped me to fully accept myself and love who I am as a trans woman. Our relationship is the kind that people dream of — our first kiss was magic,” she said.

Now the two have each other’s name tattooed on their bodies. Jessica has already taken on her fiancé’s name, The Post reported.
