There is not one elected official who should feel proud of himself this week. Not one of them should feel good about the government shutdown they brought about.

This is not how mature, professional adults resolve political issues. Yet what we have just witnessed is a perfect example of bullying, of how thugs and gangs operate. What our elected officials succeeded in doing is what responsible parents teach their children not to do. Each and every one of our House members is responsible for this debacle and should be recalled.

The elected officials got on airplanes and returned to their home states boasting about how they took down the government and stood up to the president of the United States. If this were a real shutdown, and not one that exempted a great many positions, there would not be any air-traffic-control tower employees at work today. This would have prevented the airlines and other modes of transportation from operating. Then these government representatives would not have been able to fly home and strut like peacocks before their constituents.

The House of Representatives exempted themselves from the shutdown, so they will continue to be paid and live in comfort. They exempted themselves from the very thing over which they closed the government — affordability. Do they really care about whether your health care is affordable? It doesn’t look like it.

Citizens, you must act. Take back your country, and stop the nonsense in Washington. We must all vote responsibly the next time.
