Singer Chris Brown was arrested in the District early Sunday after a fight outside an upscale Northwest hotel.

Police said Mr. Brown, 24, and Christopher Hollosy, 35, were involved in a fight with another man outside the W Hotel in the 500 block of 15th Street at about 4:30 a.m.

Mr. Brown earlier in the evening had appeared for an event in connection with the Howard University homecoming at the Park at Fourteenth.

Metropolitan Police Department spokesman Officer Paul Metcalf said both men were arrested at the scene and charged with felony assault. The victim, who has not been identified, suffered what police described as serious injuries, but details of the incident were not immediately available.

Police said Mr Brown and Mr. Hollosy, reportedly the singer’s bodyguard, were taken to the D.C. Central Cell Block where they will be held until an arraignment Monday.

Mr. Brown was sentenced to five years probation in 2009 after a high-profile incident in which he beat his girlfriend, singer Rihanna.
