Last March, the University of Louisville’s Kevin Ware suffered a broken leg during live coverage of the NCAA tournament. His team went on to defeat the Blue Devils 85-63, but the win was an afterthought to the horrific sight of Ware’s tibia bursting through his skin.

Now, only months later, he’s back — and dunking to prove it.

Teammates of the national champion Cardinals cried last March after Ware was taken to Methodist Hospital to have his broken leg treated, but he was all smiles in a recent YouTube video as a teammate is heard saying, “Comeback player of the year!”

Ware seems to have made good on a Facebook status update he made in April, and then some: “the first step is always the hardest one to take.”

Rick Pitino’s Cardinals kick off their season October 29 vs. Kentucky Wesleyan.
