OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) - A longtime fraud investigator for a district attorney in southeast Oklahoma has been honored with this year’s Brad Edwards Consumer Champion Award.

David Cathey received the award Tuesday from Attorney General Scott Pruitt on what has been designated Oklahoma Consumer Protection Day.

The award is named in honor of former television reporter Brad Edwards, who investigated cases of fraud for years for a segment entitled “In Your Corner.” Edwards‘ daughter, Ashton, was on hand for a ceremony in the House chamber.

Pruitt said Cathey has helped create a statewide network of fraud awareness among law enforcement agencies.

A criminal investigator for nearly 30 years, Cathey specializes in a variety of criminal frauds and scams, including white-collar crimes. He told legislators it was his first time before the House chamber.
