ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (AP) - A Farmington-area man has pleaded guilty to involuntary manslaughter in the Dec. 23 death of a woman while he was driving under the influence of alcohol on the Navajo Nation.

The U.S. Attorney’s Office for New Mexico says 22-year-old Fanderick Chiquito of Upper Fruitland entered the plea Tuesday in federal court in Albuquerque.

According to court filings, Chiquito caused a three-vehicle collision on Navajo Route 36 when he tried to pass a line of vehicles and struck another vehicle head on while driving in the oncoming lane.

The victim was a passenger in his vehicle.

The U.S. Attorney’s Office says Chiquito faces up to eight years in federal prison when he is sentenced on a date to be determined.
