PRINCETON, W.Va. (AP) - The second trial of a man accused of sexually assaulting two children and possessing child pornography is underway in Mercer County Circuit Court.

Media outlets report that John Spaulding’s trial began Monday.

The 41-year-old Montcalm resident is charged with first-degree sexual assault and 50 counts of possession of child pornography.

Prosecutors say the female victims were 14 years old and 3 years old at the time of the alleged incidents in 2012.

Spaulding’s first trial ended in a mistrial in February after a juror became ill during deliberations.

His co-defendant, 38-year-old Kimberly Cox of Nemours, pleaded guilty to sexual assault and sexual abuse by a custodian. She was sentenced to at least 15 years in prison on the assault charge and at least 10 years on the abuse charge.
