COLCHESTER, Vt. (AP) - The Vermont Land Trust has officially stopped work on a bill that would have allowed conservation easements to be altered or lifted.

Officials felt the measure was too broad.

The organization had suspended work on the measure in mid-March.

The bill was opposed by experts who believe legal avenues already exist to amend easements. They also warned the change could cause some people to stop making donations for conservation easements.

Vermont Public Radio reports (https://bit.ly/1pHxv40) spokeswoman Elise Annes said more input from conservationists and the general public was needed.
