BELLEVILLE, Ill. (AP) - A southwestern Illinois attorney and former candidate for the St. Clair County board is accused of marijuana charges in two counties.

The Belleville News-Democrat (https://bit.ly/1sLtn7t ) reports that 49-year-old Scott Hassebrock of Mascoutah is charged in St. Clair County with marijuana trafficking and possession. He is accused in Montgomery County of marijuana manufacturing.

In St. Clair County, prosecutors allege Hassebrock brought than 2,500 grams of marijuana from California to Illinois. Authorities say they seized five pounds of the drug from his home.

Hassebrock ran as a Republican in 2012 for the St. Clair County board but lost in the general election.

Online court records do not show whether Hassebrock has a lawyer.

A message left Friday at his home was not immediately returned.
