FORT WORTH, Texas (AP) - Tarrant County prosecutors say a 36-year-old man will serve a life sentence for a stabbing attack that left his ex-girlfriend seriously wounded and her mother dead.

Prosecutors announced Friday that Samuel Velez of Fort Worth will not be eligible for parole following his capital murder conviction. He killed Ana Gomez and wounded her daughter, Yudith Pina, in August 2012.

Authorities say Velez broke into the home Pina shared with her parents, placed knives in various locations and waited for the women to return from work. When they arrived he stabbed Gomez at least 16 times.

He then attacked Pina and kissed her after stabbing her a number of times. She was able to flee and neighbors called police, who arrested him about six hours later.

A jury convicted Velez on Wednesday.
