ANDERSON, Ind. (AP) - A central Indiana city that announced it would not take part in an annual community cleanup event because it couldn’t afford to after a costly winter of clearing snow has changed its position.
Anderson Mayor Kevin Smith tells The Herald Bulletin (https://bit.ly/1kTrnoq ) the city will provide assistance to the Rev. J.T. Meniffee cleanup project, organized by the local Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial Commission. Smith says his office wants to make the best use of volunteers, city departments and taxpayer dollars in the effort.
The city earlier said it wouldn’t take part because its budget was strapped by a record amount of snow during the winter months. The cleanup in the city 25 miles northeast of Indianapolis is scheduled for May.
