CHICAGO (AP) - Cook County authorities, using DNA evidence obtained from a bandanna, have charged a Chicago man with a murder committed nearly four years ago.
Anthony Wells, who was ordered held Friday in lieu of $2 million bail, is accused of shooting to death 64-year-old Osho Mbolaji in August 2010. Prosecutors say Wells was shooting at rival gang members in the South Shore neighborhood when bullets struck Mbolaji.
Assistant State’s Attorney Dan Griffin says Wells was wearing a bandanna when he opened fire, dropping it as he fled. DNA on the bandanna and an eyewitness linked Wells to Mbolaji’s murder.
Wells was already in Cook County Jail awaiting trial in the September 2013 murder of Jaleel Pearson, who was chased into a store, where he was shot by a Wells accomplice.
