NEW BERN, N.C. (AP) - North Carolina troopers say a 68-year-old motorcycle rider has been killed during a charity ride to benefit cancer patients in Craven County.

Authorities said Richard Baldwin was trying to pass other riders around 10:30 a.m. Saturday when he ran off the left side of the road, hit a ditch and his motorcycle overturned into the ditch filled with water.

Baldwin was riding in the Coastal Carolina Health Care Foundation’s Journey of Hope Cancer Support Center rally.

Troopers say no one else was injured, and speed was a likely factor in the crash.
