MONTPELIER, Vt. (AP) - Another committee of the Vermont House has put its imprint on a school consolidation bill, but it may be getting too late in the legislative session to pass the measure this year.

A school governance bill aimed at streamlining school districts and eliminating many school boards cleared the House Ways and Means Committee on Friday.

The panel restored financial incentives for school districts to consolidate, which had not been included in an earlier version of the bill.

But Senate Education Committee Chairman Dick McCormack has been expressing doubts about whether his committee will have time to study and pass the bill this year.
