BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) - An organizer says Republican U.S. Rep. Vance McAllister canceled an appearance before a tea party group as he continues to stay out of sight after a video showed him kissing a married aide.

McAllister was scheduled to speak Monday to the North Central Louisiana Tea Party. But event coordinator Bob Flournoy tells The Associated Press that the congressman scrapped that.

Flournoy says McAllister apologized and explained he was attending family counseling all week. Of the explanation, Flournoy said: “That’s his top issue. He’s got to get things straight with his family.”

Flournoy says McAllister told him he plans to finish his term but hasn’t decided whether he will seek a second term.

The married father of five hasn’t appeared publicly since the video surfaced last week.

Requests for comment were not immediately returned by McAllister staff members.
