PHOENIX (AP) - Authorities say a housekeeper at a Scottsdale resort stole the identity of a blind Mesa woman to secure her job.

Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio says 54-year-old Elva Cadenas has been booked on felony charges, including five counts of aggravated identity theft and five counts of forgery.

Arpaio says Cadenas was arrested Friday and she admitted to paying $350 for a stolen Social Security card and an Arizona driver’s license.

Deputies say Cadenas is a Mexican national who lives in Tempe but has been working at the 3 Palms Hotel since last July.

They say the victim discovered the crime when she was denied benefits by the Arizona Department of Economic Security because of wages Cadenas earned.
