A charred Navy guided-missile cruiser is making its way across the Atlantic Ocean toward Europe after a fire broke out in a gas turbine generator, officials said Tuesday.

The USS Hue City, with about 330 sailors and officers on board, is sailing under its own power while the cause of the fire and the extent of the damage are being assessed, a Navy official said.

No one was injured by the fire, which broke out Monday and spread through ship stacks and the first and third decks of the cruiser, spawning a number of small fires, Pentagon spokesman Army Col. Steve Warren said.

The cruiser departed from Mayport, Fla., on Friday, Col. Warren said. A Navy official said the USS Hue City was making its way toward Europe as part of a routine deployment when it caught fire.
