BILOXI, Miss. (AP) - Biloxi’s beachside comfort station is now scheduled to be completed May 1.

Four similar stations have been built along the county coastline, but the Biloxi project has sat unfinished since 2012.

Coast Transit Authority Director Kevin Coggin told The Sun Herald (https://bit.ly/1esTMTB ) “substandard work” had to be redone by the contractor.

The Biloxi project also will end up being more expensive at $1.7 million compared to $1.2 million for each of the other four.

Coggin said Casablanca Construction Co. in Hattiesburg is delinquent on its finish date and is in liquidated damages, which means the company has to pay for missing the deadline.

“He has been addressing all of that so that has been the delay in opening the facility to the public,” Coggin said.

The other four stations were built by Roy Anderson Corp., but the Biloxi project was bid separately after the city asked for the station to be moved from near the lighthouse to another spot.
