DAVENPORT, Iowa (AP) - Heavy weekend rains are expected to swell the Mississippi River in Davenport to just above flood stage, but no serious problems are expected.

The Quad-City Times reports (https://bit.ly/RmHuCb ) the National Weather Service expects the river to rise to 15.7 feet Monday at Lock and Dam 15. Flood stage is 15 feet.

Davenport public works director Mike Clarke says a few planks likely will be installed in a temporary floodwall along the riverside Modern Woodman Park, but he doesn’t expect much inconvenience to residents.

Some of the high water is due to snowmelt, but most is because of heavy rain over the weekend. Areas that drain into the Mississippi saw 2 to 3 inches of rain, and 4 inches fell in some spots.

More rain is possible beginning Thursday.
