MADISON, Miss. (AP) - A memorial service is scheduled Tuesday for Harry D. “Hap” Owen Sr., the former executive vice president of Ergon Inc. and one-time leader of Mississippi’s economic development agency.

Officials at Wright & Ferguson Funeral Home say Owen died Monday at St. Catherine’s Village in Madison. He was 94.

Owen graduated from Central High School in Jackson, the University of Mississippi and the Jackson School of Law.

He practiced law and later was president of Larco Drilling and Exploration Corporation. During the administration of Gov. Bill Waller from 1972-76, Owen was the executive director of the Mississippi Agricultural and Industrial Board, now called the Mississippi Development Authority.

He later worked for Ergon until his retirement.

Owen is survived by two sons; three daughters; 12 grandchildren; and six great grandchildren.
