FREDERICK, Md. (AP) - A Frederick County grand jury is adding a charge of first-degree murder to the allegations against a Frederick man in the death of his 21-month-old daughter.

The state’s attorney’s office announced indictments Tuesday of 24-year-old Frankie Williams and his 21-year-old wife Stephanie for the March 15 death of Anayah Williams.

Frankie Williams also faces a charge of first-degree child abuse resulting in death. Stephanie Williams is charged with first-degree child abuse resulting in serious physical injury for having failed to act.

Frankie Williams allegedly told police he had beaten the girl on the night she died.

The Frederick News-Post reports that defense attorney Sun Choi told a judge Monday that Stephanie Williams played no part in her daughter’s death.
