HACKENSACK, N.J. (AP) - Two men have been indicted on numerous charges for allegedly causing a northern New Jersey woman’s drug-related death last summer.

The Record (https://bit.ly/P42LyB) reports that 27-year-old Christopher Benvenuto of Old Tappan and 26-year-old Jessie Kurzweil of Closter face several counts in the indictment made public Tuesday. Both remain free on bail, and it’s not known if they have retained lawyers.

Both face charges of strict liability for drug-induced death, manslaughter and heroin distribution and possession counts. Benvenuto was also charged with concealing or destroying evidence in a bid to hinder his own apprehension.

The charges stem from the June 2013 death of Doreen Leach, a 47-year-old Emerson woman who died from a fatal overdose at her apartment. Authorities went there after another woman was using drugs with Leach called 911.
