OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) - A hearing is set for next week over an Oklahoma County district judge’s complaint that his challenger is trying to benefit from a similarity in their last names.

Orenthel Denson is challenging Judge Donald Deason for an Oklahoma County district judgeship. Deason filed a petition Monday claiming that Denson is using the similarity in their names in hopes of confusing voters.

Denson works as an attorney in Oklahoma City. He tells The Oklahoman (https://bit.ly/1qYiYBV ) that their names are clearly different, noting that he’s only met one other Orenthel during his lifetime.

The incumbent judge disagreed and submitted affidavits from two other Oklahoma County judges to support his argument.

The state Election Board will hold a hearing next Monday to consider the petition.
