LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) - Woodford Reserve is selling special mint julep cups to raise money for an organization that takes care of retired thoroughbreds.

The cups are being sold for $1,000 or $2,000 apiece. Woodford Reserve said Monday that money will benefit Old Friends Thoroughbred Retirement Center. Old Friends cares for more than 130 horses in three states, including Kentucky.

Woodford Reserve will sell 89 rose-themed mint julep cups in honor of the 89th anniversary of the Kentucky Derby’s designation as the “Run for the Roses.” Online purchases can be made through May 1 at www.woodfordreservemintjulep.com .

Seventy-nine cups available for $1,000 each feature a gold-plated, hand-engraved medallion of a thoroughbred adorned in a rose garland. Ten cups available for $2,000 each are gold plated with a sterling silver medallion also featuring a thoroughbred wearing a garland.
