BOSTON (AP) - Boston officials say two elderly people have been seriously injured in an explosion and fire at a house in the Dorchester neighborhood.

Fire Commissioner John Hasson said Wednesday night that six other people who also lived in the heavily damaged house were treated for less serious injuries.

Boston EMS said the two most seriously injured had critical burns, and a total of 11 people had been transported for evaluation.

Hasson said the three-alarm fire was under control at about 10:15 p.m. He said natural gas is suspected as a possible cause. He said the two-and-a-half story house is off its foundations, and there was some damage to a house next door.

Mayor Martin Walsh said shelter is being arranged for those who need it.
