JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (AP) - The Army Corps of Engineers has approved a plan to deepen the port in Jacksonville.

U.S. Rep. Corrine Brown says that even though the plan was approved Wednesday, it still needs funding.

A Jacksonville Port Authority spokeswoman says the plan calls for deepening the channel along the St. Johns River from 40 feet to 47 feet. That would allow larger vessels access to Jaxport.

The spokeswoman says the goal is to have the dredging finished in the next four or five years.
