BOULDER, Mont. (AP) - A part-time Jefferson County jailer has been arrested on charges of having sex with an inmate and taking contraband into the jail.

Sheriff Craig Doolittle said Wednesday that Rodney Mortimore of Boulder was arrested after an inmate complained on April 12 about alleged sexual relations with Mortimore in early December.

No phone number could be found for Mortimore and it wasn’t known if he had an attorney.

Mortimore faces four counts of sexual intercourse without consent and six counts of transferring illegal articles to an incarcerated person. Authorities haven’t said what the articles were.

Mortimore appeared in court Monday and has been released on $50,000 bail. His next court appearance is April 23.

Doolittle says jailers are told during training that sex with inmates is illegal.
