MARINE CITY, Mich. (AP) - This year’s Maritime Days festival is expected to be scaled back amid a lack of funding and volunteers.

Dwight Hughes Jr., a member of the Maritime Days Festival Inc. board, tells the Times Herald of Port Huron (https://bwne.ws/1ipueGA ) that the event in Marine City won’t have a carnival or fireworks. The festival, which has been a summer tradition for decades, takes place Aug. 8 to 10.

This year’s Maritime Days will include an arts and crafts show at City Hall, a parade and a run. Children’s activities also are planned for the event in Marine City, about 40 miles northeast of Detroit.

Maritime Days organizers had an Ice Jam event in March to raise funds for the summer festival, but Hughes said it didn’t make money.
