WEST HURLEY, N.Y. (AP) - Authorities say a man is hospitalized after he was shot by police taking him into custody following a vehicle chase in the Hudson Valley.

The Ulster County Sheriff’s Office says a Marbletown resident reported her vehicle stolen around 10:40 p.m. Tuesday. State troopers spotted the vehicle and tried to stop it, but the driver eluded them after entering Kingston.

A sheriff’s deputy then chased the vehicle until it swerved into the deputy’s cruiser, causing both vehicles to crash off Route 28 in West Hurley.

Authorities say the person driving it was shot while being taken into custody. The suspect is being treated at Albany Medical Center.

The person’s name, condition and details of the shooting haven’t been released.

Sheriff Paul Van Blarcum says state police and the district attorney are investigating.
