BUFFALO, N.Y. (AP) - Police in Buffalo say a masked robber is in the hospital after a pizza delivery man shot at a gang of would-be thieves.

Police tell local media outlets that the delivery man brought a pizza to a house around 10:30 p.m. Monday and was met in the front hallway by a man wearing a mask and hoodie. The masked man hit the pizza man on the head with a hammer and displayed what appeared to be a gun.

Police say the delivery man pulled out his own properly registered gun and fired, wounding the masked man. The other thieves took off.

Police say 18-year-old DeJuan Coleman is recovering from wounds to the upper arm and abdomen. He’s charged with first-degree robbery. Police didn’t know if he has a lawyer.

The delivery man’s name wasn’t released.
