RAPID CITY, S.D. (AP) - The South Dakota School of Mines and Technology has named its new athletic director.

The school on Wednesday announced the appointment of Joel Lueken.

Lueken is the associate athletic director for William Jewell College in Liberty, Mo. He will start his tenure at the school in Rapid City on June 2.

Lueken will fill the position vacated by Dick Kaiser who left for Northwestern Oklahoma State University in July.

The School of Mines is in its first year as full member of the NCAA Division II. The school has announced that it will join the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference.

Lueken has been at William Jewell since 2006 and became the college’s associate athletic director in 2009.
