WHEELING, W.Va. (AP) - Wheeling’s police chief is stepping up patrols around area banks following a rash of robberies.

Chief Shawn Schwertfeger says he’s also working with the FBI and the Ohio County Sheriff’s Department in hopes of ending the run on bank robberies - three in as many weeks.

While Schwertfeger told WTRF-TV (https://bit.ly/1ncE2XJ) he’s adding patrols around banks, he declined to discuss other strategies.

He said police are hopeful will alert them to suspicious activity.
