GRAMBLING, La. (AP) - Grambling State University students will hold a candlelight vigil for their deceased classmate Alexandria Shelton at 11 a.m. Thursday.

Shelton’s body was found in a ditch in a Lafayette park, and the Lafayette Parish coroner ruled the death a drowning with no foul play suspected.

The News-Star reports (https://tnsne.ws/1hWzixy ) police found the 21-year-old’s body in Girard Park after friends reported her missing Saturday night.

GSU spokesman Will Sutton says the vigil is open to the public and will occur in The Yard, outside the Barnes & Noble bookstore. A balloon release also will occur after the ceremony.

Sutton says students can call the Foster-Johnson Counseling Center if needed at 318-274-3277.
