CLIVE, Iowa (AP) - Police say they’re looking for an escaped inmate in central Iowa.

Sgt. Gary Lang with the Clive Police Department says the male inmate escaped Thursday afternoon during a transport from Polk County to Dallas County for a court appearance. He is accused of stealing a van, but additional information was not provided.

Residents in the Des Moines suburb were alerted by automated phone message about the escape. Police are looking for him on the eastern side of the city as well as surrounding areas.

Officials say the man was last seen wearing a green-and-white-striped jumpsuit as well as handcuffs. Police say he is considered dangerous.

His name has not been released.
