BUXTON, N.C. (AP) - Two of North Carolina’s best-known lighthouses are opening to the public for the summer season.

The Bodie island and Cape Hatteras lighthouses will open Friday and remain open through Oct. 13. Guided tours will be offered at Bodie Island, while visitors can climb the Cape Hatteras Lighthouse at set intervals.

Tickets are required for both typically, although free tickets are available for opening day. The free tickets will be available on a first-come, first-served basis and can be obtained only on-site Friday.

The Bodie Island Lighthouse opened to the public last year for the first time in its more than 140-year-old history.
