PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) - An inspection by the Rhode Island Health Department found no link between a norovirus outbreak and the food served at a wedding.

The Providence Journal reports (https://bit.ly/1jQ9bg9 ) about 74 people fell ill from norovirus at an April 5 wedding in West Warwick. The highly infectious virus causes severe vomiting and diarrhea, but victims typically get better in a couple of days.

The wedding took place at the West Valley Inn, but a food-safety inspection found no evidence that the virus originated in food.

Health Director Michael Fine said Thursday inspectors didn’t identify the actual source. He says there is no evidence the disease was caused by anything the restaurant did.

Health officials interviewed 28 of the 190 people who attended the wedding and estimated that 74 fell ill.
