COMSTOCK TOWNSHIP, Mich. (AP) - Authorities have identified a 51-year-old woman killed when she turned into the path of a western Michigan volunteer firefighter responding to a head-on crash.

The Kalamazoo Gazette (https://bit.ly/1jeH6Mq ) says the fatal crash happened about 8:30 a.m. Thursday in Kalamazoo County’s Comstock Township. It says that township resident Audrey J. Kurka was making a U-turn to avoid a northbound traffic backup created by the initial wreck.

Sheriff Richard Fuller says the firefighter was traveling north with lights and sirens on at the time.

The firefighter refused medical attention.

Two motorists involved in the initial head-crash had minor injuries.
