WASHINGTON (AP) - Superheros are taking over the Washington Convention Center.

The weekend-long comic book and sci-fi convention Awesome Con is at the convention center Saturday and Sunday.

Comic book creators and celebrity guests will be at the convention center, which is hosting discussion panels, gaming tournaments, costume and trivia contests and activities.

Earlier this week, the convention helped organize an attempt to break the world record for the most people dressed up as comic book characters. They fell short of the 1,530 record set in China in 2011. Just over 230 people showed up in full costume in front of the U.S. Capitol Reflecting Pool.

Two-day tickets to Awesome Con cost $50. A one-day ticket is $30.
