DAVENPORT, Iowa (AP) - A Davenport man accused of running down a pedestrian with his car in 2012 has been found guilty of vehicular homicide.

The Quad-City Times reports (https://bit.ly/1gUO7og) that 45-year-old Dale Lee Varner faces 10 years in prison when he’s sentenced on May 29.

Varner had said he hit and killed 23-year-old Martin Eason on Sept. 22, 2012, in self-defense. Varner said he was taking his children to their grandmother’s house when Eason came from behind a fence and approached his car aggressively.

But prosecutors say Varner spotted Eason 100 feet down the road. Investigators say Varner accelerated toward Eason, hitting the man and dragging him 100 feet before putting the car in reverse and dragging Eason another 50 feet back, killing him.
