OPELOUSAS, La. (AP) - A 27-year-old Melville man has died in a St. Landry Parish highway accident.

State police say it happened early Friday on Louisiana Highway 105, north of Melville.

Jarvis Carey was northbound on the highway when the car he was driving crossed the center line while exiting a curve. Carey overcorrected to the right, the car entered a ditch then struck a fence post.

Neither Carey nor his passenger was wearing a seat belt. Carey was pronounced dead at the scene by the St. Landry Parish Coroner. The passenger was ejected from the vehicle and sustained what state police said were moderate injuries.
