ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) - Chicago White Sox right-hander Felipe Paulino was put on the disabled list Saturday because of right rotator cuff inflammation.

The move came a day after Paulino allowed 13 hits and 10 runs in 3 2-3 innings in the series opener against Texas, a 12-0 loss by the White Sox.

Before his four starts this year, Paulino (0-2, 11.29) hadn’t pitched in the majors since ligament replacement surgery in his right elbow in July 2012, after going 3-1 with a 1.67 ERA in seven starts for Kansas City that season. He has given up 24 runs and 35 hits in 18 1-3 innings for Chicago, with opponents hitting .389 against him.

Right-hander Andre Rienzo was recalled from Triple-A Charlotte. Left-hander Donnie Veal was sent outright to Charlotte, two days after being designated for assignment.

White Sox manager Robin Ventura said Paulino wasn’t able to make his side sessions between his last two starts.

“He just needs to get better,” Ventura said. “The decision was made to get him right and make him feel better to be able to go out there and compete and feel like you’re not going out there with one hand tied behind your back.”

Asked how long that might take, Ventura said he wasn’t sure and that the team would just keep monitoring him to see how he feels.

Right-hander Tommy Hanson, who signed a minor league deal with the White Sox two weeks ago, was assigned to Triple-A Charlotte after extended spring training in Arizona.

Hanson was 4-3 with a 5.42 ERA in 15 games (13 starts) for the Los Angeles Angels last season, when he dealt with a forearm injury and the death of his stepbrother. He went to spring training this year with the Rangers, but was put on waivers late in camp to give him his unconditional release.
